Gwazi opens with new trains at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Thrill Seekers are Invited to Celebrate the New Trains with Two Special Offers

In 1999, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay unleashed Gwazi, the Southeast’s largest and fastest double wooden roller coaster featuring 1.25 million feet of twisting lumber. On Saturday, Jan. 22, Gwazi will reopen to fans outfitted with new Millennium Flyer trains designed by Great Coasters International, Inc., the coaster’s original manufacturer.

The new trains provide the smoothest way to ride a wooden coaster and arehighly regarded for their spacious, cushioned seats and individual row designthat resembles wooden roller coasters trains from the early 1900s. The open sides of the new cars will provide unobstructed views of the 7,000-plus combined feet of Gwazi’s two twisted tracks.

  1. This is great news, even though I have never ridden Gwazi. I have ridden Thunderhead at Dollywood which runs the Millenium Flyer trains. They are super smooth, and made for a excellent ride. Where as the PTC trains ruin coasters and litterly cause coasters to tear themselves apart while providing a poor experience. I just wish the new trains looked better.

  3. I think so, Bigfoots. Busch Gardens said that the seats will be much more comfortable and provide "a better ride experience", and I guess this includes the comfortableness of the seats...

  4. Oh thank goodness! I've ridden Gwazi twice, and both times I was flying out of my seat! I found the seats to be so uncomfortable. Though I won't be returning to BG anytime soon, this is definitely good news!

  5. Yes, the seats are comfortable and spaced. Ive ridden on almost every type of Wooden coaster train, and the Millenium Flyers will really change your opinions about Gwazi. The PTC trains are not fit for any coaster on that scale. Too bad Gwazi wasnt built by Gravity Group. Then it could have gotten the best trains out there, the Timberliners.
