Is World of Colors really that good? Not really...

Don't get me wrong, everybody likes the show, and I didn't see it, so I am not saying anything about it.
But MiceAge (a very important Disney fan club) reported that there's a complete absence of a storyline.
The whole show is a series of cartoon images not directly linked to each other.

FANTASMIC! has a moment where there are many cartoon images, but after that, the show is cohesive and it DOES have a storyline.

But here you are some highlights of MiceAge's article (READ THE COMPLETE ARTICLE HERE):

"[World of Color is] a good show, to be sure, but is it amazing, the best thing ever, does it live up to all the hype?

Well, yes. And no.

As a water show, it is simply stunning. The fountains are amazing. They dance, and twirl, and fly around, doing things you could never imagine water would do. To say it’s beautiful doesn’t do it justice, and as a show, World Of Color is at its very best when it simply lets the fountains play and do their thing.

If you’ve been around the Disneyland Resort for any length of time though, comparing Fantasmic! to World Of Color is going to be inevitable.

While World of Color has it all over Fantasmic! employing the latest technology to make those fountains beautiful and colorful, what it lacks is the one thing it really needs, and that one thing is a cohesive storyline.

Most of the time though there’s no segue from sequence to sequence.
Now I don’t know if the atmosphere was wrong when I saw it, or wind was slightly blowing and throwing things off kilter, or maybe the fountains around the water screens move the air just enough to disturb the screens, but those projections of Disney films were all out of focus and at times the tops of some of the heads were cut off, like the water screen wasn’t high enough.

If someone visiting the resort posed the question to me, “I have only today. I can see only one show. What show should it be, Fantasmic! or World Of Color,” my answer would not take but a moment. Fantasmic! That’s still the show to beat. Fantasmic! may have opened in May of 1992 and it may lack the latest in water show technology, but it has heart, it has story, and it’s still, after all these years, thrilling."

Wow! That's a revelation! FANTASMIC! is still the best!

If you've seen both shows, can you share with us your impressions?

  1. Well as a French Disney Cast Member-Tourist, beeing more than 20 times in other Disney Parks around the globe and beeing a Disney fan myself, I think we cannot compare Fantasmic ! to World of Color, (we'll see what Tokyo reserve for the 10th anniversary of Disney Sea...) I will enderstand the Show Directors beeing excited about all the technology and advanced fountains systems ans lights, and I think they didnt want to do a Fantasmic 2... If there is a story it would be too similar... For myself, it should be just a continuous show (day and night) like it was originally in Las Vegas (Bellagio Fountains Show), but with the Disney touch, so guest can see it werever they want like 1 hour of Disney loops, changing from day to night, so at night of course with the projection and at day just a capleasant music fountains show... if anyone from Disney (Steve ...) will read this just tell me what do you think...
